Many people are speed readers, but I'm not. That's probably why I catch so many errors. I may read a sentence several times so I can figure out exactly what you are saying, and then I will suggest ways to make it more easily understandable.
I have been proofreading for 50 years. During that time I have been a secretary for many different governmental agencies with duties including writing reports, correspondence, newsletters, taking and transcribing verbatim minutes of meetings and proofreading. I am very thorough and pay meticulous attention to detail. I have been called “hawkeye” and “persnickety.” It’s difficult for me to read any newspaper, book, brochure, sign, etc. without seeing errors.
